In dance class, your child is busy learning, practicing and preparing to perform the skills for their program (ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics) and their level (mini, junior, intermediate). Similar to a karate exam, our dancers showcase the skills they have been learning in their Dance Demonstrations.
The Dance Demonstrations is an in-studio progress report that showcases and celebrates your child’s growth and readiness in their program (ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics) to move through the levels (mini, junior, intermediate). These reports are designed to help your child develop their confidence, performance and presentation skills and practice goal setting for what they want to achieve in dance from year to year. The skills in each level will take a couple of years to learn and master, and the Dance Demonstrations allow your child to celebrate their progress through those years.
Within each program (ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics) in-class expectations for learning are set and students receive a summary reflecting their progress:
Learning
• Step 1 •
Applying
• Step 2 •
Demonstrating
• Step 3 •
Performing
• Step 4 •
Students in their first Dance Demonstrations (for their program and level) are expected to receive a summary showing they are Learning and Applying their new skills. Students in their second year of Demonstrations (for that same program and level) will likely be Applying and Demonstrating those skills, and so on.
Dancers present a variety of the material they have been learning during their class time, from warm-up to specific skills, terminology, collaboration, and prepared dances. A short time following the Dance Demonstration, each participant is presented with an official certificate recognizing their achievements and participation.
Elev8 Dance welcomes new students throughout the season. Inviting someone new to come to try a class is a great way to share a smile with a friend.
